SUMMARY:Summer Speakers Series: Louis Riel--A rebel Comes To Keeseville
DESCRIPTION:Louis Riel was the founder of the Canadian province Manitoba\, and a leader in the independence movement for Saskatchewan. A century and a half after his death\, he remains one of the more controversial figures in Canada’s history. Why did he find solace (and escape) through multiple trips to the small village of Keeseville? \n\n\n\nRich Frost\, author of several books on regional travel and history\, most recently Rich in History: A Lake Champlain Reader\, will try to answer that question\, while introducing the audience to one of the more famous unknown individuals with whom their forebears may have crossed paths. \n\n\n\nGuest Speaker: Rich Frost grew up in Glens Falls. After earning degrees from Wesleyan University and Duke University College of Medicine\, and completing a residency in internal medicine at the University of Kentucky\, he practiced medicine in Plattsburgh for over three decades. He also wrote a regular travel column for the Press-Republican and the regional column “Rich in History” for Lake Champlain Weekly. In addition to books on regional travel and history\, he wrote the novel\, Final Season.

SUMMARY:Summer Speakers Series - The Estes: A Family and Business Through Centuries and Generations
DESCRIPTION:The Estes’ saga is a true American story. The family history dates back to the 1600s immigrating from England. One man\, looking to feed his family\, created a small business. That small business\, launched in 1847 at Port Kent\, scratched and clawed its way from survival to success. Six generations of manufacturing excellence later\, Elihu B. Estes’s small dream has risen to national prominence serving multiple industries and has earned the title “leaders in color.” Doug Estes will intertwine family and company history through the years and generations\, to the present day. \n\n\n\nDoug Estes was raised in Glen Ridge\, N.J. and graduated from RPI in 1985\, joining the family business the same year. He’s the Great-great-great grandson of Elihu Beech Estes\, founder of E. B. Estes and Sons\, which was renamed Clifford W. Estes Co. in the mid-20th century. Doug is the 5th generation to run the company. Now all four of his children work at the company\, representing the 6th generation!

SUMMARY:Summer Speakers Series - Leaving No Trace: Port Kent--A Virtual Walking Tour
DESCRIPTION:Over its nearly 200 years of existence Port Kent has progressed through several stages: a hopeful commercial center venture to the residential community of today. This presentation will focus on when Port Kent served as a hotbed of tourism and recreation plus other tidbits about additional structures and railroads. The story will be told using a combination of past and present images in the format of a virtual walking tour. Come walk the streets of Port Kent and learn some great history about this hamlet when it was a tourist mecca. No exercise will be required. \n\n\n\nGuest Speaker: Don Wickman – Retired director of the Kent-Delord House Museum in Plattsburgh and the author of “A Very Fine Appearance: The Civil War Photographs of George Houghton”. Don is also considered the authority on the American Revolution site of Mount Independence in Orwell\, Vermont and the Vermont Civil War battle flags. He is presently working part-time and volunteering at the Adirondack History Museum in Elizabethtown on a multitude of tasks.

SUMMARY:Historical Bridges of the Adirondacks
DESCRIPTION:Printable Program Flyer \n\n\n\nThis program explores the incredible variety of historical bridges that are found in the region.
