SUMMARY:Matthew Adgate: Local Judge and Delegate
DESCRIPTION:Local Judge Matthew Adgate\, Jr.\, served as a delegate to the NY State Convention in 1788. His work on behalf of Clinton County helped to shape our role in the state and in the nation. This presentation will look at his life and work\, paying particular attention to his work during the Revolutionary War. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGuest Speaker: Dr. Anastasia L. Pratt is the Clinton County (NY) Historian. She earned a BA in History from SUNY Plattsburgh and both an MA and PhD in American Culture from the University of Michigan. As Historian\, she has written several books of local history. In addition to this work\, she performs with the local folk band Towne Meeting and is a professor of History for SUNY Empire State University.

SUMMARY:A Union of Friends
DESCRIPTION:Step back in time for the history and legacy of Old Peru’s first village\, the “Union”. It was a Quaker settlement in the vicinity of the present Keese Homestead and Quaker Cemetery on what is now Union Road in the Town of Ausable. These early Quaker settlers or “Friends” as they preferred to be called\, were mainly farmers who came from Dutchess County\, NY. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGuest Speaker: Helen Nerska is the Town of Peru Historian & the director of the Clinton County Historical Association & Museum. She is on the boards of the Saranac Chapter NSDAR\, Northern New York American Canadian Genealogical Society\, Women’s Rights Alliance of New York\, & the League of Women Voters of the North Country. She is the editor & author of the Clinton County Suffrage Story and the editor of the “Heritage Corner” published monthly in the Sun Community News. Helen is the seventh generation living on her Allen family farm in Peru.
